Friday the 13th (NES) - The Good, The Bad & The Buggy!

Recommended Posts

The game is flawed, but does have some good points. I like that you can scroll the screen both left and right, unlike the woods level in Mickey Mousecapade. The music that plays in the Cabins is one of the best horror music tracks I've heard on the NES. Oh, and you gotta love it when Jason appears out of nowhere.

Not a great game by any means, but something I can go back to on occasion. Here's an interview with Hirohiko Takayama, who composed the games' soundtrack:

Nintendo Player - Hirohiko Takayama (Game Composer) Interview

Oh, and I like that you posted this on the 13th.

I enjoyed your video. I happen to have similar nostalgia for this game. It's an interesting game underneath it all. I get why some people don't enjoy it but I appreciate it. Hopefully your video will help others appreciate it too.

Thank you (and everyone) for taking the time to check out our work! We're getting some good, insightful and nostalgic stories in the comments. It's so fulfilling knowing others resonate!

The map is something I could never get used to in the game.

Intellectually, I see what's going on with the lake orientation, and I've had people explain it to me the same way. But when I'm actually playing, I still get turned around and end up going the wrong way.

There's just something about it that doesn't click for me.

I completely understand you're perspective, and you're not wrong at all.

I quite literally have to remind myself that on one side of the map, assume the opposite direction lmao.

I think that's my problem. I get too laser focused on one aspect (like the zombies or avoiding Jason) that I forget to remind myself how it works. And then just get frustrated.

I wish it had a mini-map on the HUD so I could at least orient myself that way.

There HAS to be a hack/home-brew with said quality of life upgrade.

In fact, I think I'll go check and report back!
