Over 30% of the people in my survivor pool were eliminated week 1 because everyone had cinci over NE. They were the biggest week 1 favorite. I knew better. Also, there is a middle ground between going hard every week and throwing up a score here and there for titles you are already familiar with and like. Like adventure island! Just sayin Between the Bengals not showing up and the Bearcats blowing a 21 point lead, I was not a happy football fan last week.

I bought an acreage in a different province and have been working on a drawn-out long-distance move that's taken me all summer (and I'm far from done), but I should be back for next season. In the meantime, I did get one console hooked up, and I have my childhood NES library of 11 games available, of which one is Adventure Island, so I do have a score for this week. I probably won't have time to top PII's score, but I may give it one more go if football gets boring tomorrow... Score: 75,620

I am curious how these scores stack up to prior contests if so. I wish I could give it a late go, but I am working on something that has to be done tonight. @PII is inhuman. I wouldn't be surprised if his score was the straight up max. He will know and share the answer I am sure...

On that run I collected every piece of fruit and secret point item and killed every possible enemy while getting through the levels as fast as I could manage. Also had to make sure to pick up the extra life from the first secret egg in 1-4 in order to get the milk to manifest in the second secret egg at the end in order to fill up the life bar/timer just before the boss. Afterward I was screwing around and thought maybe I'd found one additional enemy to shoot, a boulder that comes from behind on 1-3 after you jump onto the first platform and wait a moment but it proved impossible to hit from that vantage point. If there's any way to get a higher score it might be to finish level 1-2 a little faster....

I haven't checked if you get points for killing them, but I made a mental note during my last run to check on that if I was going to have time to try and beat your score. If they give any points for killing them before they hit the floor then it would take major skill to kill all of the icicles while not missing any of the fruit in that section (since you get the flower that doubles fruit scores right at the start of the ice portion). Just spit-ballin' here, but that was the first thing that came to my mind when I was thinking of ways to possibly top your score...

I did not shoot them, didn't even think of that just being too focused on running past them, reigning up for the secret egg and then nailing the 3 fruits in a row. I'll have to give that a shot just to see if they're shootable...

People had time and often didn't see the value and skill needed to min-max a short section of the game, so this kind of ruleset was usually looked over or ignored. PII | 2,041
@Dr. Morbis So I went through it methodically = relatively slowly and shot all but 2 of the icicles. It looks like they give you a meager 20 points each. The two I missed were the ones that are on either side of the 3 fruits in a row. With a little practice I might be able to whip through it while shooting the icicles, just stopping for the secret egg but I think it would be pretty damn tough to hit those last 2 icicles while also getting the 3 fruits. The trouble of course is that your life-bar/timer is rapidly depleting while you linger around waiting for the icicles to fall if you're going any kind of slow and the hit you take in less points at the end of the level for that lack of life-bar/timer isn't worth it. So I finished with a score of 74,710 which I suppose could have had an extra 40 points if I'd shot the last 2 icicles. So maybe at the end of the day you could add another hundred something points to 76,700 if you could do for those icicles without slowing your run down at all. Not your usual bearcats The last few recruiting classes were below average and with the Big 12 move, it might take them another season or two to bounce back and that's assuming the coach doesnt get fired first.
