2024 VGS NES Weekly Contest - Adventure Island

Get ready for ADVENTURE, for It is time for Adventure Island!!!

The rules for this one are extremely simple this time around:

• Play till you die the first time or till you reach world 2-1
• Highest score wins, with highest progress being used as tie breaker
• Genre: Action

The contest ends Sunday, 09/15/24 at 8 PM EST time.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun.

I started practicing some last night. Lucky for me, I am terrible at adventure island, but I have always loved the game. Accordingly, I have played level 1 a LOT. This is a great ruleset

I'd rather send you guys to world 4-1 if there were passwords as there is where things get interesting.

This game is too long and too challenging for a full playthrough ruleset these days.

It seems like we only had about 8 regulars last year and half of them fell off the face of the earth this season. It's kind of disappointing to only see 4 or 5 scores every week, but I think old age had caught up with me and @docile tapeworm. I've been playing since the 2012 season and I just dont have the energy to give a 100% effort every week like I used to.

It's not about your score, it's about the fun you had along the way.

I'm grateful for that tradition this year. Over 30% of the people in my survivor pool were eliminated week 1 because everyone had cinci over NE. They were the biggest week 1 favorite. I knew better. 

Also, there is a middle ground between going hard every week and throwing up a score here and there for titles you are already familiar with and like. Like adventure island! Just sayin
