2024 VGS NES Weekly Contest - Batman Returns

The Batmania from the late 80s and early 90s is back! Suit up, pick up your batarangs and go plummet minions into a pulp!

The rules for this week are as follow:

• Enter the password 4336 41 *1*1 91 to start at stage 3-1
• Play till stage 4-1
• If you die before stage 4-1, pause the game, take your picture and post the stage you died and your score
• You are considered dead if you lose all the life boxes and all your energy
• Highest progress and highest score wins. Highest life box count at 4-1 will be used as tie breaker.
• Genre: Beat'em up

The contest ends Sunday, 09/08/22 at 8 PM EST time.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun.

I can do better on boxes lost. But that is immaterial without a score tie, so I guess it doesn't matter much

Edit: I did it again and finished with 3 boxes, but about 3,500 fewer points

Damn. I have been terrible with the rules lately. A Google inquiry lead me wrong here. I found something that essentially said the boxes are lives. I should be able to finish this thing no problem now that I know that isn't the case.

Couldn't get into kickle at that level. Too much going on the last few weeks to get into a game I have never played and learn to play at that level. I've played through batman returns a few times and it's great. Even have a pretty CIB copy down in the basement game room I never get to

I had 20K at the end of level 3 but the Bat-mobile moved forward slightly before I could pause on 4-1 and that added 30 points.  I'm not sure if that matters or not...

I wasn't even going to post it but then I noticed that there was a 50 pt difference with yours and it made me laugh so I figured I'd better share the joy with you

I'm unfamiliar with this game and was wondering, why my attempt had such a low score of only like 18k, even though I was only punching the enemies and never using jump kicks except for the bosses. Then I noticed that you can loop this stage for as long as you want. Is this allowed? If so, then my score would be this:

4-1 / 44,010 / 0-Box

This is a really good game. I beat it a few times when we played it until the end. I wish I had gotten a chance to play this season since it looks like there are only 4 or 5 scores a week now.

It looks like it ends Sunday so I might have to see if I can get a few games of Bubble Bobble in.
