Movie Debate #119: The Witches (1990)

I enjoyed it as a kid, and I watched it recently as an adult and still find it enjoyable. That being said it's far from my favorite movie, or even Roald Dahl movie. Nothing ill go out of my way to watch. 6/10

I think I watched it when it released and a couple of times after - so my ranking may be a bit off since it has been awhile.  I gave it a six - a "cute" movie with the limitations that come with such things to an adult.

It's aight. One of those classic movies everyone has seen and lots of people seem to fawn over but I find it a bit dull. Reminds me of James and the Giant Peach, another movie my brother was really into, but I was always sat there bored watching.

Odd movie choice but maybe this is seen as a kids cult classic in some circles.

I went with a 4. If you’re showing your kid some classic kids movies this would be nowhere near the top for me. It’s an ok movie I guess but there was better stuff at the time and better stuff to watch these days.

Never ever heard of this. But it's directed by the guy who did The Man Who Fell to Earth, so even if that's no indication that I'll like it, it might at least be interesting, and I might see it if I ever come across it anywhere.

I'm interested though. I read a ton of Roald Dahl growing up.

I'm surprised people haven't heard of it. It was a fairly big deal back in the day.

Of course, it's annoying that some people confuse it with Hocus Pocus.

Yeah me too honestly and even Gloves has seen it!

I think maybe it might have something to do with it been British. You guys don’t seem to get much in the way of British stuff whereas we do here and in Canada.

This was one of the movies that they would show in school when it was one of those days where you do nothing but watch a movie or two haha.

6 by the book but I probably enjoyed it more as a kid.  I'd say it's a must see for the 10 year old set.  Introduced the kids to it last year.

I was a huge fan of Roald Dahl's books as a kid but none of the movie adaptations ever really did much for me.
