Gamecube teardown + Fan Upgrade with Carby Video adapter

I wanted to update the fan on this DOL-001 GC and upgrade the video with a Carby adapter. It had never been tore down and cleaned either, and was gross. Like a dummy I didn't take any before pics.

Parts needed for upgrade:

3d printed fan adapter

40mm noctua fan

3pin to 2pin adapter

3d printed carby adapter support

Carby is a high quality piece:

Tore down it down, cleaned all plastic/metal with soapy water, and blew the electronics out with compressed air and cleaned with alcohol as needed.  Nasty.

Put it back together, here is fan installed:

So much better. It moves a lot of air, quietly.

Carby installed, the support is highly recommended. Well designed to hook into the cooling port, still allows air flow.

Two minor downsides:

-super bright LED in carby is distracting but it has a robust menu so you might be able to turn off, Im not sure.

It just sticks out of the back so space depth may be an issue.

Looks great:

I keep seeing you post cool 3d printed stuff and it continues to push me to want a printer. A lot of people I know use one for printing figures and the quality is often low for that, but these purpose-built things are super cool, and I think a way cooler use for the printer.

Honestly I'd never even thought to swap the actual fan out for a different one on a console, kudos!

I was worried about how tough it would be to get up and running. It was way easier than I thought.

I have a pretty low end setup that was given to me for free its like 400$ retail I think. Its the flash forge creator pro.

it works great for simpler things, like purpose built game stuff :

but the detail starts to lack in more finer things on the lower end units.

Mine is slow too, that gamecube stand took 8hrs.

In the end, being able to just “print” almost any simple thing I need does feel like the straight up future.

Seeing something from the Jetsons more or less come to life is fun.

I am going to upgrade to a Prusa soon. Right now they are the best for a once a week printer like myself.
