How about @Tabonga.  His profile avatar is very distinctive and much easier to make than a ghost cat headed Link.

Before:  It has an ancient sticker from some rental store’s filing system right on the label.  And some sticky tape residue that I had previously only simply peeled the tape away.

After:  All the tape residue is off the shell and the super brittle mess of a sticker is gone revealing a lovely Nintendo Entertainment System logo.  Cleaning it didn’t leave a pristine label underneath but it’s better than it was.  Also gave the contacts a good swabbing.

I surprised myself that I was able to get it back together And that it actually works. It’s been broken for many months and already replaced. Those ribbon cables are tiny so I added a pair a tweezers and a magnifying glass to my toolbox.  Took me a bit to figure out there is a tiny latch to hold down the ribbon cables.  Anyway, my son is glad to have his Zelda joycons back and VGS bingo finally motivated me to do it!

Took some digging for me to find these guys, but here they are. Just your everyday security bit and tri-wings. Also  my cool SNES controller “toolbox” where I keep them.  I used some of these last year to install a replacement back on my son’s Switch. I’d have posted a pic of that but we upgraded to an Oled and I don’t have it anymore.

Made a new new title screen for Final Fantasy 2 by mashing up the title screens for Final Fight 2 and Fantasy Zone. I could only do so much on my phone. Sorry about the watermark I wasn’t gonna pay the $8 the “free” software wanted to remove it.

I chose to recreate the Super Double Dragon logo in the style of Bubble Bobble, because once the idea popped into my head, I couldn't start inwardly giggling at how ridiculous that concept is.

spacer.png

Here's what the original logo looks like, in all its 80s/90s "badass" glory.  My art skills not withstanding, I should probably feel ashamed, but I don't, I just keep smirking, lol.

This was a $5 pickup at the flea market a few years back.  Totally non functional, with obvious AA battery corrosion in the battery compartments, but overall in pretty great shape.  Inside everything was fine, beyond a little "fluff" that had crawled up the contacts from the battery compartment into the inner case.  Removing all of the old, bad caps and replacing them with brand new ones via a cap kit I ordered online, and this Game Gear roared back to life!

spacer.png

Submission: Souvenir

Spoiler

I originally picked these up because they were miniature arcade cabinets, and while I've always liked Pac-Man, I love Ms. Pac-Man.  These initially held a warm spot in my heart solely due to the fact that I picked them up when my son was just a baby, while we were on one of our various trips to Babies R Us and I happened to slip over into the other side of the store.  I began to absolutely adore the cabinets once I saw photos someone had posted showing off that they were nearly the right scale for 3 3/4" action figures, and had various Joes and Cobras set up on one machine or another as they were playing, with various other characters crowded around, either watching or hoping to get the next play.

spacer.png

Submission: Reimagined

Spoiler

I chose the main theme to The Legend of Zelda, as it's been a tone on my phone for the most important things in my life (ringtone for my wife, alarm tone when I need to make sure I get up, reminder tone for life events) basically since I first got a cell phone where you could put your own tones on it.  In honor of the Halloween season, I chose to alter the song so as to present it as more of a funeral dirge.  Thanks to the way the ton shifts, it still has a couple of higher points in it, but I think the end result comes out far more creepy and depressing than the light, hopeful, adventurous song that so many of are immediately familiar with.

This is the original controller that came with my new-to-me PS4 back at the top of 2015.  It served me well, but eventually the analog sticks gave up the ghost due to playing too much 7 Days to Die on it.  Both of those were replaced with much better ones (working ones!), bringing it back to life.  Before patching the 'ol girl up, I also added a couple of snazzier, grippy thumbsticks at the same time.

Clockwise from Diamond Thieves:

Homegrown - Diamond Thieves babyyyy! Made by Manganga Team in partnership with Mega Cat and Veegie Ess.

Souvenir - I used to love these promotional VHS's from Nintendo Power. In a pre-YouTube world, these things were a huge deal. I just kept watching them over and over. My favorite is probably actually the N64 one, then the Starfox 64 one, but I don't own those ones, lol. The DKR one is still gold.

New and Improved - Above is an abomination I made years ago, modding a Game Boy Micro into a SNES controller. The buttons work, X and Y are mapped to Start and Select, and I added volume buttons to the side.

Tools of the Trade - I use these security bits to open up basically every kind of cart that Nintendo made, except for the ones (I think just GBA) that use a tri-wing style screw. I have tools for that too.

It Belongs in a Museum - I have all 9 grey-cart Game Boy NFR's, but this Killer Instinct one was the hardest to find. It belongs in, uhhh...

Good as New - The above "Pokemon Black" is actually a re-shell of a legitimate Pokemon Red, which was sold as a "cursed" copy because all the graphics were glitchy and corrupted. I tried fixing it one day by re-flowing all the solder points on every IC on the board, and it ended up working. Now it plays perfectly, thus ruining the creepiness and now I don't know what to do with it, lol.

And below, Across the Pond - Happy memories of playing Ucchannanchan no Hono no Challenger: Denryū Iraira Bo in @Red's N64 contest.

I think it has to be my little Metal Gear Solid shrine I've got going here. I have Psycho Mantis from F4F as well but he's in another room. Snake himself is always with me though, right there on top of my computer desk.

I've found that makeup brushes are both affordable, and very good at removing dust from things without the risk of leaving marks. I have plenty of "tools", but I imagine there'll be a bunch of soldering irons etc. shown so I decided to think a little out of the box on this one.

I wanted to try something a bit extra, so I imagined Robbie Rabbit from Silent Hill 3 as an animated sprite. He has a very simple 4 frame animation where he's running head-on. I've never done animation before in any capacity, so this was fun to try out.

Casual Art. I though about making a humble tribute to @scaryice, because he's always putting so much effort into the yearly NES challenge. I took the character from Getsu Fuumaden that he was using and tried to draw this character as he appeared on the box. However, making pixel art is much more difficult than I imagined and I'm not so sure about the results

Diamond in the Rough. I did a blog post about Phantasy Star IV, which is the only game in the series that I've actually liked. This might be controversial since the other games are usually fairly beloved (or at least I and II), but I've tried to explain my reasoning in this article.

Game Night. I played over an hour with various members from the forum though it was cut short by technical issues. Really sorry about that. 😕 Also it wasn't a good idea to have the players rotate with only a few people. Aside from @ZeldaFan042there were also @MegaMan52, @drxandy, @Jicsan and Mandy? Sorry, if I can't remember everyone right now.

It's Dangerous to go Alone. Just mde it to Gannon's room. This was my first swordless challenge in any Zelda game and it was really difficult and fairly time-consuming. I hope it's not necessary, to collect the silver arrows?

However, I LOVE video game soundtracks and I bought this one from the Gamescom a few years ago. I also have the FF VII OST, but FF VIII just has my overall favorite soundtrack in the whole series. Though I still regret not buying more OSTs back then, because I never found them again for such a low price. But I was relatively broke back then.

Hello!  So I'll start with just one for now, and add some more later as I get time.

1. Casual Art - Create a pixel art drawing of another VGS user's profile picture

Ok, so I'm no grand pixel artist...BUT, I've been inspired by @Splain's profile picture because I LOVE Neverhood!

So here is my horrible attempt:

Splain.png

I basically tried to re-style his character (left), but in the theme of the Neverhood box art (right).

WIP.png

Thanks!

---

2. Game Night - Play a game online with at least 1 other VGS user

gamenight2.png

Played Jackbox for a couple hours the other night, with @Jeevan, @drxandy, @Rhapsody98, and @SailorScoutMandy (just in case they are doing bingo 🙂  )

3.  Homegrown - Show off a physical copy of a homebrew game you own that was made by a member(s) of VGS, or that was created in partnership with VGS

IMG_0737.jpg?width=901&height=676

4.  Across the Pond - Show off an item in your collection that is from a different country than the one you live in

IMG_0738.jpg?width=901&height=676

5. Souvenir - Share your favorite item in your collection related to a specific game or franchise that isn't, itself, a game. This could be a poster, book, figurine, etc

I can't really pick an absolute top #1 of all time favorite, but here are a couple that are up in the running:

IMG_0741.jpg?width=901&height=676

IMG_0740.jpg?width=507&height=676

Both Okami and Psychonauts are some of my favorite games of all time.  I think the art in Okami is just beautiful, and I love the main character.  The figure is really nice and once I get more organized I'll pull him out of the box.

The Psychonauts poster, I think is just super duper duper cool and I love the style of it!

6. Tools of the Trade - Show off a tool or set of tools you have used to clean, repair, or modify a game, console, or controller in the past

IMG_0750.jpg?width=901&height=676

These are just some of the tools I use frequently.  The sponge-looking item on the right, is great for gently cleaning grime and dirt off at items, and the brushes are different level of 'fine'ness for brushing off loose debris.  I use the magnifier ALL the time for identifying things, and then my absolute favorite of these tools is the flexible holder on the right.  You can put various tools standing up in it, so you can have them all handy while working on a project - it's great!

7. It Belongs in a Museum - Show off an item in your collection that was never officially released. IE prototype, not for resale game, unreleased game, etc

This is a Press Kit for Uncharted that afaik was never 'released' for public.  I really like this one because it is just put together so well and in style with the game, and has lots of neat little things inside.

Bb8AdlB.jpg

All looks good, and I love that GB Micro-SNES controller hybrid, haha.

For the "How Charming" challenge, since it's not retroactive, you must claim a charm (any charm) AFTER the event has started for it to count, it can't be a charm you already had beforehand, otherwise it would basically be a free space. As such, that challenge you actually haven't completed yet.

Other than that though, looks good! That modded virtual boy controller is pretty neat.

It looks like the picture for Across the Pond isn't properly loading, do you mind telling me what it is, or trying to insert the image in to the post again? As far as taking apart the consoles for New and Improved and Good as New, that's not necessary. For Good as New, as long as it has, at one point in time, been disassembled, fixed, then reassembled, it counts, and for New and Improved, that is a physical modification to the system so it counts. We usually just go by honor rules for stuff like this, if you say the Famicom Jr. was modded, and if you say the Disk System was repaired, then I'll take your word for it (well, other than the pictures to show that you do actually have them, haha)

Looking good all around though! I also am a really big fan of video game OSTs.

I bought this nonworking at a garage sale in ~2011. I replaced the fuse in it as one of my first soldering jobs with a cheap Radio Shack soldering iron.

This tape is relatively obscure, and contains an interesting peek into the history of my favorite video game franchise. It's pretty neat.

How about @Tabonga.  His profile avatar is very distinctive and much easier to make than a ghost cat headed Link.

My avatar is that of an old Hing Fat toy figure from their Monster Bucket from long ago. They now go for a fair amount on ebay but you can actually still get them in one of the SCS buckets (they have some interesting ones) at Amazon.

All of the new submissions look good, and all of your submissions are looking good too @ZeldaFan042! I was wondering when someone would show off a proto for It Belong in a Museum, the N64 ones in particular are really cool!

Sorry @avatar!, I decided to butcher your profile pic.

In case it isn't obvious, I'm a huge fan of the Team Ico games and I enjoy getting my hands on anything related to the series, which mostly consists of books and soundtracks.

I have a number of imports, but these are some of my favorites.

I was able to acquire this Charm today by purchasing a shirt.  As I mentioned in the other thread, I had wanted to buy a shirt for a while, but never got around to it.  So seeing the How Charming tile in the Bingo contest seemed like as good of a reason as any to finally pull the trigger.

If this one doesn't count I won't be offended, but I think it's worth including.  I swapped the wiring for buttons 1 and 2 on one of my Master System controllers.  This causes the buttons to work in the opposite of a normal controller.  You might ask why someone would do this.  The answer is simple:  Many Master System platformers have the run and jump buttons backwards to what a typical Nintendo player would consider normal.  This makes some games unplayable for me and by simply reversing the wires, game like Alex Kidd will play just like a Mario game.  I keep another controller original in case I don't need the swapped buttons.  It was a super simple mod, but it makes some games I would consider unplayable much more fund.  If this doesn't count, I have other more traditional mods I've done that I can take pictures of.

This is another one that I'm not sure about.  I've been trying to research this "demo" for a few years now and I have yet to find another matching copy.  It looks like a regular demo disc, but it came in a traditional Sega Saturn long box with artwork including an RP rating and lacking a bar code.  I was able to confirm that the data on the disc is unique from the actual game and had not yet been dumped on redump.org.  I've searched eBay and multiple other forums looking for another copy with no luck.  So I will leave it up to the admins whether this counts for It Belongs in a Museum

Revision to New and Improved.  This one might be another iffy one.  This is a picture of the back of my Sega Master system with a little switch.  This switch runs to an FM sound board that I installed many years ago.  FM sound was only available in Japan so we never go to enjoy it here until Tim Worthington developed a board that could be installed in US and PAL Master Systems.  The switch on the back allows you to change between the original PSG sound and FM sound.

Here is an interesting bit of trivia:  While FM sound wasn't available outside of Japan, there were a few US exclusive games that had FM sound options.  That means that for many years, there were games that offered optional sound that was impossible to listen to until these mods became available.

I completed Resident Evil 2 on the N64 for the "Beat Every N64 Game - 2022."  I've updated that thread as well.  I was happy to help get them one step closer to completion.

This one should complete my Bingo.  I was having trouble coming up with good ideas for a glamour shot, so I decided to go with a shot of my childhood NES along with both of my sons childhood Nintendo toys.  Hopefully this meets the requirements.
