Complete US Game Gear Game list and Game Gear discussion

Recommended Posts

Need some help on the complete US game gear list. Looking for a nice clean alphabetical complete list.

Buy my account I only need about 24 more games to have the complete set.

https://segaretro.org/List_of_Game_Gear_games_in_the_United_States

this one seems to be missing George Foreman KO, and had some discrepancies in naming convention (like calling revenge of drancon “wonderboy” which i know it is, but nowhere is wonderboy even mentioned on box) Strider 2, instead of strider returns? Also does heavy weight champ even have a us release?  just dont have a ton of faith.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Game_Gear_games

this list is awkward and too unwieldy with all the europe and japan only releases with no filter.

calling same game gear guys that might have input @CodysGameRoom@Braveheart69 @RH

Also, please discuss/ show off any game gear stuff. Like why is urban strike 50$? Lol

  • The title was changed to Complete US Game Gear Game list and Game Gear discussion

Are you looking for just what titles were released in the US or the titles and their variants? I found that the list at RF Generation is pretty complete.

http://www.rfgeneration.com/PHP/checklists.php?ID=U-045;style=viewing;stats=1;showall=1

I will look through my collection later and see what info I can dig up for you.

As for Urban Strike, and some of these other prices, no idea. But I completed the set long ago, and I had already had Urban Strike in my collection before I really started to set out to complete the set and research prices. The only two that gave me trouble were CJ Elephant Fugitive and Pete Sampras.

Yeah I feel like ive come across multiple copies and thought they were shovelware lol

And that list is perfect, I will run it through the set and see what I end up with. The variants are a nice touch too.

Who's list is that?  Unless the PDF is autogenerated, it says it was last updated today!

That list belongs to the RFGeneration website. All entries to their database have been added by members, and any photos that may be associated with the entries are uploaded by members as well, nothing is pulled from the web. I've used them for years as collecting software and for information as well. To this day and especially with NA gone, I think they are one of the best resources on the web.

The PDFs always update with the latest information from their database, every day. So if someone were to go add a new Game Gear variant today, it would show up on that PDF tomorrow.

Here's a link to their checklists. Multiple regions for multiple consoles. Now, keep in mind that these might not be complete, as it is all user generated. Also because of that, there's a small chance for incorrect data to be present, although I believe the members who approve new entries are pretty good about catching that kind of stuff.

Their site is VERY good for variants, it's helped me collect a lot of that type of stuff throughout the years.

I had a couple of chances to pick up CJ elephant Fugitive for like $30-40 but passed as I wasn’t really sure if I wanted to collect Game Gear. Is it even any good or is it just a pure collectors novelty?

I know it rarely listed for sale, maybe a few listings per year. But turns out there’s a copy available on eBay right now shipping from the UK for like $150 shipped

@Mr. CIB list seems accurate, except it's 235, not 234. I checked and you have Super Battletank listed twice, once as Garry Kitchen's Super Battletank, and once as Super Battletank. Remove the dup and I believe that is the absolute perfect US release list (without variants).

@phart010 yep it's quite rare, I've never seen a single copy with my own eyes except the copy I ordered when completing my set long ago. If you still have a chance to pick them up, do so, if for no other reason than for trades fodder to a GG fullset collector.

@Mr. CIB what about the regular mighty morphin power rangers? You have “the movie” but not the regular.

Good catch. Once I found the variance I was looking for at letter G I stopped looking. Didn't see that. Then I looked further and saw Mega Man was listed twice. So I think that accounts for it. Remove the dup mega man, add MMPR. I'm checking the rest of the list now though.

Edit I believe that is it. To recap:

1. Remove the duplicate Garry Kitchen's Battletank

2. Remove the duplicate Mega Man

3. Add Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

And the list is complete and correct.

Are there European titles that did not make it to USA? If I were completion collecting Game Gear, I’d want those as well especially since they play in English and there’s no ESRB or PEGI mark to distinguish regions

Yeah, a good amount. Not 100% sure but I think the game gear was pretty popular in Europe.

The only pete sampras ive ever seen in wild was PAL

If a person is young enough to have grown up with a DS or even a GBA it probably won't seem like anything but a step down.  On the other hand if a person grew up with one then they know how amazing it was to own an ergonomic, backlit, full color, portable master system.  That's the spectrum as I see it.  As for the games, there are lots that range from good to great as well as no shortage of lesser qualities.

Yep just like Master System, it's region free and there are plenty.

I'm in on this thread. I didn't know VGS had much of a GG following. I'm currently working on a CIB US set. Are we in a consensus that CJ is a confirmed US release?

I questioned this a LOT myself when completing the set. I think at the time I finally found good enough "proof" to convince myself, although I cannot remember exactly what that proof was now.

Whelp, I did some Googling, and found the proof I was referencing... which was a thread... here.... from 2020... haha.

Both @RpgCollector and @Braveheart69 have US copies with US barcodes. Supposedly the sales in the US were dismal, and remaining copies were shipping back to the UK to be sold at discount retailers.
