In a hindsight, I should have saved this for Karnovember, but alas, here we are.

This week, our might competitors shall tackle a classic of classics, Karnov.

Get your fists, your belly and your fire breath ready for some serious beat'em up action!

The rules for this week are as follow:

  • Play till your last life.
  • After you your second to last life, take your picture
  • You may not play your last life at all
  • Use the maps here to determine progress: https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/NES/index.htm#K
  • Highest progress + lowest score wins
  • Genre: Action

The contest ends Sunday, 07/24/22 at 11 PM VGS time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun.

You mean take the picture after losing your second to last life? Since we're not allowed to play our last life. But I've never played Karnov so I might be misunderstanding something.

Yes, that is correct. Once your are at your last life, you need to stop playing and take your picture.

I love Earthbound…. Sort of.

Its richie! Glad to see ya back. I also love earthbound. Not sure if that has some connection here, but earthbound lives up to the hype. Won my copy in the NA SNES fantasy football league. Championship was against @Quest4Nes (Jeff). Hes still extremely bitter my mediocre team somehow beat his juggernaut

It's good to see that the first boss from Bad Dudes got his own game.

I always thought Karnov was in Bad Dudes first because that's what I first knew him from. Turns out the arcade Karnov came out the year before which is interesting.

I didn't learn that until years later. I had never seen the Karnov arcade game so I thought he was in Bad Dudes first.

I've never played Karnov either. I really liked Bad Dudes in the arcade, but I didn't care too much for the NES version.

Bad Dudes seemed good to me as a kid when I used to rent it. The flaws are much more obvious to me now. I don't know if it's NES limitations or a crappy developer or a bit of both. It sucks, but it's still kind of fun in a cheesy 80s sort of way.

It's passable, but I remember being disappointed as a kid when I played the NES version. For whatever reason, it seems like most Data East arcade ports appeared excessively stripped down compared to similar NES games.
