Dental Advice?

If the root canal is done properly you should never have any problems with it.  Most dentists send you to a specialist that only does root canals.  Contact who is going to be doing the work, explain your situation and ask if you can setup a payment plan with them.  A lot of dentists will work with you.  Till then, I would rinse with peroxide daily.  The peroxide will kill the nerves and keep the tooth from getting infected, just don't drink it.

its crazy to me you would sit there in agony because selling games takes too much time.

I forget if you have a job or not, but especially if you dont you really have no excuse.

I know you decent amount of stuff, its all liquid if you just put in a little bit of effort.

Tapes literally sell themselves in Facebook collectors groups. I sold like 600 over a year with next to no effort. Sell there if you need quick cash.

I've tried to sell things on Craigslist before (since I refuse to sell on eBay anymore)...they're not flying off the shelves. I actually had a hell of a time getting stuff to sell. And it was decently priced. I'm not going to sell stuff for pennies...since I'd have to save up $1,800...and that's probably without the crown. So yeah...selling stuff isn't the answer here. Unless I really REALLY want to get pennies for my shit...and then I'd just go to a pawn shop 😕

I don't mind selling, since I actually have quite a few things to sell. Mainly consoles but I have a bag full of games (GOOD games) to sell as well. But the time that it takes for someone to be interested in stuff, us to work a deal and for me to be holding cash in my hand...I don't think I can manage it in time to save this tooth.

As for Facebook...I don't know of any collecting groups around here. I've actually tried looking before and couldn't find much. I did find a general buy/sell page but it was for Seattle and it was filled with ad's.

You dont need to justify anything to us.

You asked tor advice, and the overwhelming advice is to get up and start selling shit. If anything, get a headstart on paying off whatever loan you have to take out.

Put $250 worth of stuff that doesn't suck in a flat rate box.

Put it up for auction.  Get a 60% return

Or

Grab LRG stuff.

Put it up for sale at 75% of value

There you go.

Canadian based but has American users aswell. One of many groups I frequent. List your tapes in Canadian dollars and be willing to ship.

Sell your stuff priced at 75 to 80% market value and watch it fly off your shelves.

Easy fast money.

Well first of all, teeth are crazy important - crazy important.  There are only 3 ways to get a brain infection (I believe) - eyes, nose, and teeth.  My stepdad had to have emergency brain surgery after letting tooth infections go being stubborn - he had permanent damage and is now disabled.

You need to get this taken care of one way or another asap...I'd also suggest to get it pulled from the feedback provided so far.

Yes, you will need to obtain the money in some capacity:

1. Sell stuff on here/ebay - you can get money in a paypal account within 48 hours if you hustle HARD, and to your bank account in a week or less (from my experience).  I don't like selling on CL/FB, but if I was in your shoes I'd consider it.  Your feedback on getting pennies is a bit silly, to be honest - you just won't get market value is all but 75-80% should not be a prob.

2. Continue shopping around to find the best deal possible with your insurance - most of those places also offer reasonable payment plans for this very reason.

3. Take out a personal loan.

4. Exhaust the options of trying the free/student-level outlets you mentioned - confirm you have to wait 14 months or whatever it is.

Also - have you talked with your insurance company - are you sure they don't cover some of that bill?  That doesn't sound right...

This may sound harsh, but while $1800 is a huge bill to unexpectedly cover, this is part of managing adult life :(.   I won't add much to that statement because it's a very crappy reality, but I've had to take out unexpected personal loans, pull from my 401k, sell off stuff etc.  While $1800 is terrible, it genuinely could be a LOT worse.

I can't take out a loan unless I have income that isn't SSI. I'm disabled, no job. No one can touch my money. So no one is going to give me a loan. I'd have to save it up myself.

Same with payment plans. No one is going to work with me for that. It's illegal for businesses/companies/people to take my SSI money. I don't fully understand it but that's the gist of it...something about it being disability through the government means it's got some sort of protection on it.

Insurance company covers only front teeth, this is the far back molar. I'm fucked. I can't even change insurance. Because Washington Apple Health is the only dental insurance I get as someone with Medicaid. I'm not the only one who's screwed, everyone who has free/low cost health care has the same issue as I do. It's actually been talked about several times, how bad this insurance is. How they cover extractions but won't cover saving the tooth, even though pulling can lead to issues down the road.

With medicaid, and a back tooth, I'd circle back to just having it extracted.

The reason they don't want to do a root canal that far back in your mouth is because the tooth isn't as structurally important if it isn't between two other teeth.

Also, if you have ANOTHER rotten tooth, to where you basically need two extractions, you are very likely better off in the long run NOT having those teeth, so that they don't just cause problems again later.

Because it sounds like you have a brushing technique problem that isn't taking care of your molars that will only make this same problem rear up again down the line.

Grab some of your decent items, list on several places online for 60 or 70% of value. That stuff will fly off fast, money to your account. Then grab another stack of stuff and repeat until you got the money to cover the bill.

Last weekend I was gone for a night, and when I returned home the next day, it seemed the cat was straining to urinate. Luckily it was just stress and things resolved themselves, but if not, I definitely would have been grabbing and selling shit at even 50% value to raise funds. In such instances as these, tapes should be taking a backseat to all else

Ok...I guess I'll try selling stuff on here. I just don't know if I'll make enough...my mom said with a crown I'm probably looking at more like $2,500 😕

Hm that's a thought, I know my insurance doesn't cover a root canal but I wonder if they cover crowns?

The crown goes on top of the root canal to cover it all up.  You don't get one without the other.

Dude, get a plane ticket to San Diego, cross the border, take a 5 min taxi to Washington Dental, they will walk out and pay for the taxi, you sit down with no appointment and they will get you a root canal and porcelain  crown for $800. ( I mean that was my price 2 years ago), if they can add the crown the same day you can fly home that day, if not they will add the crown the following day. If you have an infection the situation is worse.

I should say prices vary, I had the root canal, then they put a post in and build up the tooth some and added a porcelain crown. My situation took more work because my tooth was literally half gone.

I'll tell you what, you come to San Diego and I'll take you to the dentist.

Edit: Look at the Yelp reviewa for Washington Dental Tijuana.

Wouldn't the plane tickets cost more? Plus no passport. So I'd have to wait for that and...from what I remember it's not a quick thing. It's just silly going to a different country for dental work.

You didn't used to need a passport to cross that border, but I haven't kept up with the current rules.

But a flight down the coast plus the dental costs sounds like it will be cheaper enough to make it worth the trip.  (See flights in the $300 range round trip)

Especially since it sounds like you REALLY need TWO root canals, given your passing mention of the tooth with a huge hole in it.

You could get both done, plus travel, for less than doing one locally.

If Californication is really offering to help you get down there...don't discount it.

I appreciate the assist, but the passport would be a problem.

They started enforcing the rule change a couple years ago. I spoke to a guard and talked my way across one time without a passport, but now they have you sign some basic entrance form and added greeting stations where they take a look at your passport to enter Mexico.

I think an express passport takes a couple weeks but it costs more.

Still... Express passport is under $200, all in.  Closer to $150 from what I recall.

All ends up cheaper if they are willing to do it
