MegaMan52 Looks Back On 2024
Introduction
It's New Year's, and it's time to look back on 2024 with the sequel to my "MegaMan52 Looks Back on 2023" Blog.
I continued doing the things that I do every year: video game collecting, travelling, watching Movies, hanging out with friends. I also continued to make Blogs, which I've been making since 2022.
Let's look back at some of the things I did this year, focusing mostly on the Highlights.
MegaMan52 Looks Back On 2022
Video Game Collecting
I kicked off 2024 by getting Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest for GameCube....
....and the Japanese release of Tiny Toon Adventures 2 for the Famicom. Not a bad start to the year; I hoped this was a sign that more good things would happen later in the year.
I got a bunch of CRT TV's and even an HDTV for free, as well as some TV Stands.
I also got a Samsung DLP TV for free, with the manual, paperwork, and Remote.
Some games I bought cheap, like Splinter Cell 3D for 3DS (a port of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for GameCube), which I got $10 sealed, and Syphon Filter for PSP which was $5.
Here's a Shelf I got for free. There's no room left on my other Shelves, so I had to get another one.
Note: I'm silent and off-screen in this video
A friend gave this to me for free: a 43 in 1 Multicart for the Game Boy Color that contains original Game Boy and Game Boy Color games. It is also notable for including a bootleg Sonic the Hedgehog game titled Sonic 3D Blast, which my friend and I played in 2018 (and this is the very same cartridge, given to me six years later). The game has nothing to do with Sonic 3D Blast, other than having pictures of the opening and the map screen from the Saturn and PC versions.
Some of the more unusual additions to my collection this year were a Game Boy Color bootleg called the "GB Boy Colour", and the Tiger Electronics Net Jet (which is still sealed).
My favorite addition to my collection this year was probably the Super Mario RPG Remake for the Switch. I completed the game and it brought back a lot of fun memories of playing the original SNES game in 2000 or so.
A Ping Pong Table and Air Hockey Table were also among the items I got this year. The Ping Pong Table was free.
While not something I buy too often, I did buy one collector's edition package of a Switch game in 2024: the Nintendo World Championships NES Edition Deluxe Set. I know about the history and significance of Nintendo World Championships for the NES, so I made sure to get the Deluxe Set package of the Switch game.
Other games I got were New Super Mario Bros. Wii (the cardboard sleeve variant that was included with Wii consoles), Ecco the Dolphin on Sega Genesis, The Jungle Book on SNES (fully complete and near-mint, and the seller included a box protector), a Mega Man 9 Demo Cartridge (which contains one stage from the original game of MM9 playable on a real NES), and Super Mario Party Jamboree on Switch (which I got on the day of its release). I got even more games and related items for my Birthday and for Christmas. Read on.
Blogs
I gotta keep making these. I made about eleven Blogs this year (including this one), and this Blog is my 41st Blog.
Some of the highlights for 2024 were my Mega Man 9 NES Demo Cartridge Blog, Physical and Digital Release Blog (thanks for all the "comments" that have nothing to do with the Blog), Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn Blog, Top 10 Game Glitches Blog, and Luigi's Mansion. My Top 10 Christmas Movies Blog was my 40th Blog.
Movie Theaters
I watched Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and the new Beetlejuice movie in the Theater. I chose not to watch Beetlejuice in September and waited a little more than a month before watching it because why not.
Game Completions
I completed a lot of original Game Boy games in January and February this year, including the Mega Man games, Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan and Ninja Turtles II: Back From the Sewers, the Donkey Kong Land games, and the Japanese-exclusive "Pingu" (based on the Penguin cartoon of the same name).
I also completed the Super Mario RPG Remake for the Switch. This might be the most fun game I played this year, because it is a remake of my favorite SNES game.
The Mega Man games for the original Game Boy were added to the Switch's Game Boy App in 2024. I have all of these, except for Mega Man IV. So I played it on the Switch's Game Boy App, and completed it.
Visiting a New Arcade
A new Arcade opened in 2024 close to where I live. I got a chance to play the 2022 Fast & Furious Arcade game, featuring UHD screens and seats that move.
Five Years on Video Game Sage
2024 marked my fifth year on VGS, and I made an entire Blog about it.
Birthday
I celebrated my Birthday at Chuck E. Cheese for the third time. It was a little more basic this year: just Pizza (Pumpkin-shaped), Cake, Games, and a few Gifts. Which was fine by me, because I didn't really want to do their Birthday Show and dance like I did last year.
Their evening show was DJ Munch's Haunted House Party, which was basically a compilation containing both Halloween and non-Halloween songs and songs remixed by Chuck E. Cheese's purple friend Munch. They also had Kidz Bop versions of classic music, like Michael Jackson's Thriller.
I got a Mario Kart shirt, a Yoshi Pez Dispenser, and....um....Chucky. I also bought a mini Basket Ball set from the prize counter, and some orange Cotton Candy.
Last year, I carved a Chuck E. Cheese Pumpkin. This year, I carved a picture of his purple friend Munch.
Christmas
I got a few gaming goodies for Christmas:
A Mega Man My Arcade Micro Player, a Handheld that has the six Mega Man games released for the NES. I remember reading a news article about this on GameSpot last year, but couldn't find it anywhere. I checked several times this year (most recently in October) and just couldn't find it. I got a Bubble Bobble My Arcade Micro Player (which contains the Bubble Bobble game for the NES) a couple years ago at Walmart, and I went to the same location this year but I couldn't find this one there. Luckily I have family and friends, and a family member found this and told me that there was only one left at a different Walmart.
A 320GB PS3 Slim, with box, Controller, hookups, Assassin's Creed, and a USB Cable (required to charge the Controller).
I tried a PS1 demo disc from 1998 that has a demo of Spyro the Dragon on it. I couldn't get it to work on either my PS1 or PS2, because I played it on my PS2 a few years ago and it scratched the disc. Took it to a game store in 2021, and the owner cleaned/resurfaced the disc. Still wouldn't work, but I played it on my PS3 recently and it works on that system.
A Guinness Gamer's Edition Book.
And a Ninja Turtles Calendar ('80s Cartoon style). I love retro and retro-style items, but you already knew that if you noticed the pictures above.
As mentioned above, I made a Blog about my Top 10 Christmas Movies, which is my first Blog that isn't about video games (though some games were mentioned).
Conclusion
MegaMan52 Blog #41 Completed.
That wraps-up 2024. I'm happy with what I accomplished this year, especially my Blogs. I added more games to my already large collection, watched Movies in the Theater, completed some games, checked out a new Arcade, visited friends, spent time with my family, played the original Animal Crossing on GameCube as I've been doing on New Year's every year since 2006. It was a long, hard year for me and there was no shortage of stress, but I got through it. Now I get to relax....for the evening.
Happy New Year.
