I finished Stupidman

Got up this morning at 4 a.m. (Well, it was 5 a.m. but stupid clock changing made it 4 a.m. Why can't we just get rid of it?! It benefits nobody and it's really annoying.) I composed a couple of songs for Stupidman. The final battle song and an ending song. And I put them in the game. And I was done. I decided to hook up my NES and try it on that too. And so I did. And it works fine, but there's a space at the leftmost side where there's no colors or anything except the bakground color. And

Hamburgers NES update

I had finished the game when I was playing through I discovered that it froze every certain place in level 3. I reached out for help in the NES Discord. I found some lovely people who were willing to help. Eventually, I figured out what they were trying to tell me and after a few days of me trying to figure stuff out, I eventually got it back working again just now. I played through the whole game without it freezing, which is no small feat because I think it takes about 20-25 minutes to do.

Hamburger Castle

Work begins on level 10, the final level of Hamburgers En Route To Switzerland. I tried to make it reminiscent of (and not ripping off) the castle levels of Super Mario Bros. This is what I made. The picture on the wall is one of a milkshake. I should have made it look better but I couldn't. So anyway, now that I know how, I think I should go back and redesign the earlier levels. But I don't know what I could put besides clouds in the sky though. I need to compose some music for this l

Forest burger.

I was pretty unhappy about my Atari 2600 game I had been making, so I decided to return to something that I was happy about: My NES game. I "drew" level 5 that is in the game now. So this is a one-man production. I'm doing everything here. I have total control over it. The goal is to fit a 10-level burger shooting French fry game into 40 kb. I'm almost up to #B000 out of my alotted #FFFF. But the game is only about 50% completed. The nacho-shooting pizza is now in the game. He shoots n

Forest burger (part 2)

Discovered I had more tiles than I thought I did. So I updated the forest level and put in a song for it. So now here is a list of stuff I need to do next: compose music and draw screens for levels 6-10 add in taco handling code compose music, draw screen for, and code for ending. make it so 50 enemies go through and then end level. The last one I decided the game would be more interesting, and the score would be useful, if I make it so 50 enemies get th

fiXed.

I fixed the letter x in my font. I am taking a little break from this because I have been working too hard. I didn't do anything on the game today, and I doubt I will because my head hurts now. I tried to get the computer in the den on the internet. You'd think a guy who can make an NES game do it in three tries, but nooooo. They made it so hard, it's like they don't want you to have two or more computers connected to the same router. God forbid that happen. Now I'm wondering if I can use a

Burgers are tasty.

So since I tried and tried to get the collision detection working in my Jack and the Beanstalk game and failed at every attempt, and with nobody willing to help me (Hardly anyone programs the Odyssey² any more), I decided the best thing is to not work on it anymore and wait for someone to help me. With that, I returned to the NES and my burger game. I am trying to find a publisher for it, but not having any luck so far. I redesigned level 1 since all it was was just white clouds on a blue b

Burgeropolis

Level 9. Almost done. I spent almost all day on this, trying to make things just right. Here is a screenshot of level 9 in action. I need to make a song for this level. I'll do that tomorrow. And then after that, work on the final level and the ending. Then it will be testing time, as well as code fixing time. It was very hot today. So the a/c is trying to run a lot. It got to 94 degrees today.

Burger changes

I redesigned level 3. It now looks like this: I also made the chicken nugget come less often. Right now you have a 1.9% chance the next enemy wouldn't be an enemy but a chicken nugget. It was 3.9%. You can really notice the difference just a 2% change makes. I like this level 3 better than the last one I had. It looks more like what I was aiming for when I first designed the level. In case you can't tell what it is and thought I just went crazy, it's supposed to be the inside of a cave

Between the liNES - Tetris

How did almost a whole week pass between my previous blog update? Anyway, after reading about that kid who beat Tetris, I decided to play it myself. Here's how far I got. Apparently it doesn't take very much to be a Tetris master. I crap out at level 19 because it gets way too fast and I can't control the pieces any more. I don't understand how tapping the underside of the controller is supposed to help ("rolling"). I wonder what the highest speed is. I remember playing Tetris DX

Between the liNES - Super Mario Bros.

Today I played NES. I wondered if it was possible to score over a million points and finish the game. Yes, but you must "cheat" in order to do so. In 3-2 you can build up your score to a million without losing very many lives and then proceed to beat the game. I watched some YouTuber get a million points. I was wondering why he kept dying, but I soon figured out why. So all that talk about SMB made me want to play it. All I did was use infinite lives, nothing else. And I beat it a second ti

Bad bananas.

So I thought to myself "What can I put in the Stupidman museum level beside boxes?" What's long and would fit in the game? Then the answer came: bananas. Some other changes I made: made Stupidman stop animation in Mr. Germ's hideout when he reaches an end. fixed the supermarket level by re-designing it. made it so the soap is always in a different screen each time you play the game. spaced out the bananas more evenly. So now I think I've completed t

Back to the NES

It had been a while, but I decided to get back to programming my Stupidman game for the NES. We last left Stupidman heading to the grocery store to get some soap to kill Mr. Germ, his archnemesis, with. I decided to start the work on Act IV with wandering around a grocery store. It took a long time, like three or four hours, but I finally got Stupidman walking around a grocery store that looks a lot like the museum. So why is there nothing in the grocery store? Well, there IS something

Another return of Stupidman

I was working on my Game Boy game of Superhero Man when it occurred to me that I never finished the game I was basing it off of. So tonight I dipped my toes back into NES C. I have to get re-used to doing stuff, re teach myself because it's been about a year since I did anything. I am not going to get the poor reviews for HERTS to stop me, I still want to finish this project. If it's crappy, so be it. I just want it to be a FINISHED crappy project, Follow my progress of this at the official

Act IV intro

Yesterday after I finished the blog entry, my head got better. So I decided to work on the intro to Act IV. I also darkened the background inside the store so you can see the score better. What I'll do today is compose a song for the store and put it in the game. 1,000,000 / 60 / 60 / 24 = 11. I once heard it would take 11 days to count to a million. And sure enough, if you count one number per second, it'd take you 11 days to get to a million. So I think I'll make the s

A new song finally

I finally did it! I put in a new song! The problem was this: I was using the wrong program to get the correct code to make the song play correctly. I was using FamiTracker when I should have been using FamiStudio. I guess I should have finished this back when I knew how to do it correctly. I wrote a note to my future self in case I forget again. Now tomorrow I can put in the soap in the game. Or maybe later today. I don't know. I just woke up and an hour of getting angry is enough for one day.

A new NES project.

With Hamburgers finished, I wondered if I could stomach making, from scratch, a new NES game. It wasn't as bad as I feared. Except for the errors, that eventually got cleared away. So here is my new game's title screen. The object is the same as the Atari 2600 version. But the NES has two buttons. This is where the change comes in: You will press the A button to open the mouth and B to close it. I think I'll add the alphabet and add some text to this screen. That would be fun. I don't

A new NES project (part 2.)

I haven't been working on my NES project very much lately. Apart from making the mouth open and close which I did a few days ago, all I did was change the title screen. It was one of those cases where you had to change it but tried to make it look as good as possible. So that's what I did. So that's what I did.
